Any subscriber engaged in research or teaching may contribute to the PATSy. The following describes particular situations where contributions are made by subscribers.

Contributing material on existing cases

PATSy is intended to be flexible and does not impose any particular educational pedagogy by design. Educators are free to submit their own tutorial questions for their students, excerpts for "Interesting information about this patient" and references. These are installed on PATSy without cost to the contributor. All contributors wil be acknowledged on PATSy.

When a department subscribes to PATSy, its member users form part of a co-operative that has access to an affordable managed high quality multi-media facility in which they may present or disseminate their work for teaching and research purposes. The co-operative is committed to an ethos of non-profit use and dissemination of clinical and research case material.

Teaching

  • a) Contributing additional references, questions and information about cases:
Educators may customise the material on PATsy's cases for their own students by contributing their own references, tutorial questions and narrative accounts about the disorders shown by PATSy's cases. This can be achieved by completing and submitting this submission form. There is no charge.
  • b) Contributing cases for demonstrating or illustrating clinical procedures or disorders
There are many instances where educators wish to demonstrate clinical procedures or selected aspects of clinical disorders to students. This type of material may be installed on PATSy and interested individuals are invited to contact PATSy's Project Directors to discuss this. Please fill in this application form.

Research

  • a) Researchers may contribute additional information about PATSy cases under "Interesting details". Please complete and submit the "Extras submission form" linked here off this page. There is no charge.
  • b) Contributing cases for dissemination of research work Researchers may wish to consider the following situations where PATSy has a clear role in connection with their research work.
    • Situation 1: Research facility.
Researchers may use PATSy as a facility for storing data that is to be accessed by users engaged in a research project.
    • Situation 2: Supplementing journal papers.
Most journals permit very limited space in which research may be reported. PATSy can provide researchers with a facility for storing supplementary raw research data on PATSy as a rich appendix to a published journal paper.
    • Situation 3: Offering multimedia format.
Published journals are rarely able to support research reports in multi-media format. Researchers may use PATSy to support a journal publication by supplementing the published paper with multimedia formatted data on PATSy.

NB: In ii & iii, researchers may have their data installed pre-publication and have this withheld from public viewing until the paper is published.

    • Situation 4: Storing data from rare and unusual cases.
Often seminal papers are wirtten based on one patient/participant case. the data is often lost in time owing to the lack of a suitable data storgae facility. PATSy can be used by researchers to store data from rare or unsual cases.

Exclusive use of material installed on PATSy

Sometimes, departments or research users wish to install pre-publication material or a case for their exclusive use. When material installed is for the exclusive use of a department or a user, the contributor will pay for the cost of installation.
