Accessing PATSy from outside the UK & Eire

Currently, PATSy is available only to UK & Eire resident users. In some countries, the length of time it takes to load audio and video files is too long for PATSy to be used efficiently. This situation is compounded when the internet traffic is high at unpredictable times. Countries outside the UK & Eire are required to establish a mirror PATSy site locally to overcome these problems.

A PATSy mirror site is usually an academic department that seeks to be the local PATSy representative in a country. It has to secure a server and a copy of PATSy's software (under license) and undertakes the functions of hosting PATSy to its local community of users. In addition, the host is required to co-ordinate the processing of case data contributed by its local members. Sharing of cases data between countries is possible and indeed desired but this will depend on whether these countries are able to mutually respect the Conditions of use agreement agreed with the patients who have contributed the data. The cost of the license(s) and the sharing of case data is subject to negotiations and if agreed, case data is shared freely between sites and not subject to financial agreement.

If your department wishes to become a host site for PATSy, then please contact Richard Cox (co-director), Department of Informatics, School of Science and Technology, University of Sussex, Falmer, Brighton BN1 9QH or e-mail: richard@patsy.ac.uk

Note: this situation is currently under review - a move to centralised hosting with worldwide media streaming is being investigated.
